I filed my taxes in late Jan. ,I received my state refund right away but my Federal refund has just said it's being processed for months now and I don't understand why. This I believe has also held up my stimulus payment as it has stated I'm eligible but that's as far as I've gotten. I was imprisoned 9 years and didn't file for that whole time so I don't know if that has affected it or not. How can I talk to a live person to find out ?

try calling the IRS 800-435-1040

First choose your language.
Then 2
Then 1
Then 3
Then 2
You should then be transferred to an agent, but there is likely to be a long wait.

or you can register and see if the IRS has a transcript of your return

what you need to register

Request Online

What You Need

To register and use this service, you need:

your SSN, date of birth, filing status and mailing address from latest tax return,

access to your email account,

your personal account number from a credit card, mortgage, home equity loan, home equity line of credit or car loan, and

a mobile phone with your name on the account.
