You will need to contact customer support to get access to the 2017 product to file your return. You can file the tax return after 10/15/18, just not with TurboTax online.

one more questions. i know i overpaid a lot of money last year (i am a 1099). i paid for the 2017 Turbo Tax $119.99 deluxe version. it is installing now. how can i use the refund (overpayment) from 2017 to pay my 2018 taxes? i would rather the IRS keep the excess payment for 2017 and let me use the excess to pay the 2018 off.

If you have not filed your 2018 return, you can just tell TurboTax you want to apply your overpayment to next year's taxes. IRS will put the money in your 2018 tax file.
If you have filed your 2018 tax return and not paid your taxes, IRS will apply your 2017 overpayment against the tax owed.
