  &lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;B&gt;If this is your first time filing this year,&lt;/B&gt; there are multiple steps before an e-file and perhaps it timed out but did not actually e-file. TurboTax will send you an email to confirm your return was e-filed and then to give a status update. If you do not see an email, please check the &lt;B&gt;spam folder &lt;/B&gt;on your email account as some mail providers put the return updates there and it might vary year to year.&amp;nbsp; The email will tell you if the federal was accepted or rejected and if it was rejected, what needs to be changed. &lt;/SPAN&gt;

&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;B&gt;If you had filed previously and it was accepted&lt;/B&gt;, then the IRS will not accept additional e-files this 
year and amendments are filed by mail, so you can open the return back up and proceed.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;B&gt;If you have not e-filed or mailed your forms&lt;/B&gt;, you can indeed to back and make changes to the original return and not have to wait to amend.&lt;P&gt;
  &lt;SPAN&gt;Please go back to TurboTax and under &lt;I&gt;Y&lt;B&gt;our tax returns &amp;amp; documents&lt;/B&gt;&lt;/I&gt; (you may need to click &lt;B&gt;Show&lt;/B&gt; to the right if it is hidden) check that the &lt;B&gt;correct year&lt;/B&gt; is highlighted and select that you need to either &lt;B&gt;amend your return or to add a state&lt;/B&gt;.&amp;nbsp; &lt;U&gt;You do not actually need to complete either of those&lt;/U&gt;, but if you select one, it will open your return back up for editing.&amp;nbsp; Go to the left menu and click on the &lt;B&gt;Federal&lt;/B&gt; or &lt;B&gt;State&lt;/B&gt; and this will open the federal return so you may add your information and then proceed back to &lt;B&gt;File&lt;/B&gt;, on the left menu.&lt;/SPAN&gt;
