I have always E-filed my taxes through Turbo Tax, except for the 2018 taxes, which I submitted late on March 2, 2020, with a refund due to us, filing jointly. Because I filed late, I had to mail the returns. I also e-filed my 2019 returns on April 14, 2020.

However, I cannot get any status on my stimulus check, because your system says the 2019 taxes haven't been accepted because we don't have the 2018 taxes submitted yet. When going onto the IRS website, it shows that the 2018 return was received, but has gone no further than that. Thus, stimulus check and my 2019 e-filing are in limbo. Because of the Covid-19 shutdown, there is no one at IRS to talk to on the phone. How do I get the 2018 submission acknowledged, to that I can get my stimulus check, and also for other financial needs to supply my 2018 and 2019 tax return info to banks, etc.?

You will just have to wait because the IRS is not processing mailed returns, like the 2018, at all at this time. Your 2019 return will probably be process before 2018 and 2019 will also take a while.

**********************************************************************************************
**NOTE*** Due to the Corona virus the IRS is operating short staffed. All field offices are closed and some processing centers are all but closed. Any tax return that requires hand processing will probably have long delays. Mailed returns are not being processed at all at this time. Most phone service has been curtailed.
https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue
**********************************************************************************************

TurboTax only gives the general IRS (most returns are processed within 21 days) date. The actual date is known only by the IRS. TurboTax also does not adjust the general date for anything on the tax return. TurboTax receives no feedback from the IRS after filing.

The IRS says most refunds will be issued within 21 days - some faster, some longer.

Each tax return is evaluated on it's own merits. There is no first-in-first-out. Two similar tax return submitted at the same time can have totally different processing times based on IRS criteria for examining tax returns that the IRS does not divulge.

Some returns will be held for ID verification or other verification. The IRS will send a letter if they require more information to process your tax return.

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/refund-timing

Check your refund stratus here:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Check your state refund here:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

Per your response, since I now need to sit and wait for IRS to respond to my mailed in 2018 return, and since because it's not recognized I cannot currently E-file my 2019 return, do you suggest I continue to wait to E-file the 2019 returns or mail them?

The IRS never "acknowledges" mailed tax returns other then issuing a refund if one is due.

E-filing 2019 has nothing to do with 2018. For e-file purposes your 2018 AGI was 0 because if was filed late and will never be entered into the e-file database.

@macuser_22 - i did see a report that IRS brought 10,000 service center workers (of 70,000) back to the office today, so the paper will begin to move (albeit slowly)
