can I undo an amendment

I file my taxes correctly on monday and when my mom looked at them she said it was wrong, so I amended my taxes. After finishing the amendment, I showed my mother than nothing had changed and that my answers did not change at all, but now I have to mail in my taxes to finish this amendment process. Is there anyway to undo what has happened or do I still have to finish out the paper trail process and do the 16 weeks of processing?

You should be able to undo the amendment. Not sure if you used the Online version or CD/Download. I will give you instructions for both.

If you started amending your tax return by accident and would like to cancel the amendment:

Open your return if it isn't already open.
In the left menu select Cancel Amend.
Select Yes, I want to cancel my amended return and Continue.

I originally filed HOH and received my return. Weeks later after I filed an amendment to Single. It was accepted.

The next day after discussion with my son realized I should have kept it HOH. So I want to cancel that amendment.
I need help canceling that amendment.

Per the instructions I tried to cancel amendment but do not see that option. Only says I need to wait 16 weeks. Pls help me get this amendment canceled ASAP. Thx!

@Mpjohnston Did you e-file the amended return? If you did, no information was sent because amended returns cannot be e-filed they must be mailed.

If you did mail in the amended return, you cannot undo it, stop it, or get it back. You would have to wait until the amended return is processed & then amend your return again.

One more thing....if that is the case, since I initially filed HOH I should have received $1200 and $500 Stimulus checks. Because I claimed my 23 yr old since he lived with me for 6 mo and I paid for more than 50% of his expenses.

I received the $1200 but not the $500.

Initially my son filed independent in error and it was rejected bec I had already claimed him (HOH).

What do you think?

@Mpjohnston Dependents have to be under 17 at the end of 2019 to receive the stimulus money for them. That is why you have not received the dependent stimulus money, sorry.

I amend my on accident and the sent me papers do i still need to fill it out even tho i didn't make any mistakes
