My 2019 taxes have been rejected as an incorrect AGI ON MY 2018 FORM. Number matches the return we filed last year. I have tried to go on the IRS website to get a transcript and it keeps telling me incorrect info. I printed a hard copy of the return and mailed it on February 24 of 2020. As of today I have not received my refund and when I check the IRS site with all the required info it tell me no record. How can I get out of this loop. How long is it taking the IRS to send refunds on mailed returns? If it is taking more than the 7 weeks I'm currently at, fine but they still show no record?????

**********************************************************************************************
**NOTE*** Due to the Corona virus the IRS is operating short staffed. All field offices are closed and some processing centers are all but closed. Any tax return that requires hand processing will probably have long delays. Mailed returns are not being processed at all at this time. Most phone service has been curtailed.
https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue
**********************************************************************************************

TurboTax only gives the general IRS (most returns are processed within 21 days) date. The actual date is known only by the IRS. TurboTax also does not adjust the general date for anything on the tax return. TurboTax receives no feedback from the IRS after filing.

The IRS says most refunds will be issued within 21 days - some faster, some longer.

Each tax return is evaluated on it's own merits. There is no first-in-first-out. Two similar tax return submitted at the same time can have totally different processing times based on IRS criteria for examining tax returns that the IRS does not divulge.

Some returns will be held for ID verification or other verification. The IRS will send a letter if they require more information to process your tax return.

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/refund-timing

Check your refund stratus here:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Check your state refund here:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

Unfortunately, unless you mailed certified with return receipt (which is the only proof of mailing that the IRS accepts) or used another tracking service you have no way to know if the IRS even received the tax return. Not much that you can do now but wait. It would not be a good idea to mail a 2nd return because if they get them both then having two returns in the system will require special hand processing that can take 6 month or more.

Seems as though with the virus and the stimulus package going on, I will just have to sit back and wait to see what happens whenever we get back to some normal. Just used to being able to file electronically that I expected a faster return. Thank you

Hi Flo,

I had the exact situation happen to me. I also mailed my 2018 return in February 2020. I e-filed this year's return on April 14th and my return was rejected on the 16th due to the 2018 AGI not matching their records. So, I did some research. I should have known, from working at the front desk at H&R Block the past four seasons, that when you mail in a prior year return, the average time it takes that department to even look at it, is about 4-6 months. Filing a late return usually always creates some kind of problem, because your current year is being processed by a different department and without the final approval of your prior year, they have no guarantee that your calculations are correct. Any discrepancies could affect, not only your refund or amount you owe, but would also change amounts like your AGI, which is what they use to calculate this year's kicker check.

The rule is, if you filed your prior years return by mail, after mid-October, then you must put a $0 for the prior years AGI, since the amount has not been confirmed yet.

I apologize for the long answer, but I thought it would help to have an explanation. Also, I am fairly sure that it won't take long for the corrected return to get approved due to the rush to get the stimulus payments out!

I hope this helps. Best wishes for a speedy refund and stimulus payment!
