I filed my amended state return in Jan 2020. It was for my Dad who passed away in 2019. I called and they said I needed to sign the return and send it back with a letter. The date on the form is 01/22/2020. I need to change the date to today. How do I do that without having to amend again?

Use a pen. Cross out the printed date neatly and write in the date you are sending it.

I was filing 2021 and file wrong year 2022 still waiting for a rejection email from TurboTax

@Kayhie25 The current online software is only for 2022 returns, and it is impossible to e-file a 2022 return at this time, so not sure what you did. Clear out any 2021 data you entered into the online program and use it later for your 2022 return.

But....if you need to prepare a 2021 return you need the CD/download and the return will have to be mailed.

Online preparation and e-filing for 2019 and 2020 and 2021 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2019, 2020 or 2021 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.

I only notice it once I paid for it and submit it I’m still waiting for rejection email. Will I still be charge for sending it?

@Kayhie25 E-filing is not open. That tax return went nowhere. Did you enter payment information in the FILE section?

You may need to talk to customer support to sort out whatever you did, but the incorrect return you tried to file did not go anywhere at all.

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”

Yes I enter payment information and when I got to the next screen it says I paid for it and they gave me a order number then it said

Yes---you can still go back and use the online software to enter your 2022 information. That software is only for 2022. If you leave 2021 information in there it will be all wrong. You will have to delete the 2021 income information you entered and replace it with 2022 information. The tax laws for 2021 and 2022 are different.

In order to prepare a 2021 return, use the link given to you earlier and get the CD/download for 2021. The 2021 return will have to be filed by mail.

The date on page one - I put in 01/01/2022 to 12/31/2022

but it is suppose to be 07/01/2922 to 06/30/2023

@Nolansflowers What are you trying to do? What date are you trying to change --- and why? If you are trying to e-file a tax return, you cannot e-file a 2022 return. The only way to file it is by mail.

Why do you need to file a fiscal year? You need to use the 2022 program to file July 2022 to June 2023.
