After I filed, I found another Form 1098 Mortgage Interest and more charitable contributions. When I went back into the software and entered the information, it did not change my Federal but it changed my State return. It seems to say that I would get an additions $242. Since my Federal did not change, so I have to send in an amended tax return to show the additional 1098 form. I forgot our mortgage was sold in March of 2019.

Yes, if you want the additional state refund, you would need to file an amended return. The additional 1098 and charitable contributions may not have affected your Federal Return because you may not have enough deductions to itemize your deductions. If this is the case, you do not need to file an amended Federal Return.

In order to file an amended return, make sure that your 2019 return was accepted in TurboTax Online or paper-filed through the mail by the IRS.

To prepare an amended return through TurboTax, follow these steps:

Sign in to TurboTax.

Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show), select 2019 and then Amend (change) return.

Select Amend using TurboTax Online.

Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.

When finished, we'll give you instructions for printing and mailing your amended return as amendments can't be e-filed.

Thank you! One more question. So if my State return I had say a 500 refund, and now I did the amended return and the State refund says $200. Is that an additional $200 or did my whole State refund drop to $200 from $500?

You would receive the additional $200 refund.
