If I cannit update the bank account information, what options do I have to stop our return from being put into the wrong accout?

You can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 and ask them to stop...

You can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 and ask them to stop the direct deposit and send a paper check in the mail instead. See the following link on the IRS web site for more information.
