Any tax refund from an amended tax return is only sent to you by the IRS as a check in the mail to the address on the amended tax return which you mailed to the IRS.

Please answer the person's question. Ameding the prior year tax return there is a bug where it is a paper filing but you will need to change the refund method to check or you will be in an endless loop.

It was answered. A 1040X does not have a refund option. The IRS always mails a check for amended returns.

Hi this is less about the tax rules and IRS. We understand that the IRS does paper filing and it will be a check refund. The problem is the user experience and the screen flows telling us to change the refund method. There is no screen flow that will allow us to change the refund method. The screen has a continue but will not allow us to continue to get a page that will state that the federal amend now needs to be printed and mailed in. Trust us that its less about the tax rules and needing a tax expert as much as those specific screens and how they work.

I know of no screen that asks for that if you are correctly doing the amend procedure.

See this TurboTax FAQ for detailed amend instructions:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1894381-how-to-amend-change-or-correct-a-return-you-already-filed
