We use TT Premier for our Federal and Colorado filings. Each year we check the block for a free state filing (Colorado - we live in Florida, which does not have state income tax - and we have wages in CO from part-time income), yet each year we have to pay $24.99 (via a credit card) in order to file our returns. Why does TT offer a free state filing, and then charge us for it?

TurboTax does not offer a free state e-filing when using the TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions. The offer is for one free state program download included in the purchase price of the Deluxe edition or higher.

In the Desktop program You can only file New York for free.

You get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Some people need to file in more than one state so they have to buy another state program.

Then each state return (including the first one) is 19.99 to efile, usually goes up to 24.99 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.

Box says Federal Returns & Federal E-File plus State Returns. It does not say state efile is included. It also says on the back of my CD case in the comparison chart....
