1242 – Electronic return received more than 3 weeks ago; –E Freeze; in review, notice for additional information will be received. Should receive a letter from the IRS within 30 days requesting what additional info they need.

Personal experience: I got DDD of 23rd but roommate code 1242. Did some research and that means FREEZE received return more than 3 weeks ago and now need additional info which is proof of dependent EIC credit. He has claimed his 2 children for the last 3 years since birth and they have his last name. Always files Head of household because girlfriend doesnt work. Never had a problem before. Major delay. Extremely upset. Should receive a letter from the IRS within 30 days requesting what additional info they need. More than likely proof that he can claim the children.

I had same code, after 50 days I received a letter requesting proof that my kids lived with me even though my wife and I have been married in same address filing together same kids since birth. Sent the required info in it took them another 30 days to say they are reviewing it! I filed on feb 5 it’s now May 14th still waiting on refund .

Just received notice in mail they are reviewing and will notify us by 10/2018

I have received a code 1242. Ok so what does this mean??

And I thought that I was insured for stuff like this...

Is TurboTax gonna step in and help me give them what they want?¿??

As stated in an prior post in this thread the 1242 means they are going to need something from you like proof of a birth certificate on a dependent or foster care papers etc.. The IRS will send letter requesting what they want.

TurboTax cannot help - only you can provide the documents that they want.

It's 2022 and exact problem both kids since birth and never a issue claiming now have to prove my children are mine and oldest is 17 so time frame is same and audit defense doesn't speed up process told October 23 filed in Feb

The IRS does random audits and you were a lucky winner of one ... simply comply with the information requesteds ASAP since your return will be frozen until you do.

I have two tax returns one from 2020 one from 2021 the one from 2021 I claim rebate recovery tax and I ended up on 172 the second tax return that I have is for 2021 and my return is $26,000 I have the code 151- 1242 and they say that it is frozen I don't know why they took my 2020 returns and offset it doesn't even tell me what it was offset for in addition to that my 2021 return it's just Frozen and I'm not getting any information as to why it just says that I owe but I don't owe anything so who do I call am I being audited or what's going on

Check your account on the IRS to see what is happening ... check the tax transcript and the account transcript.
