topic Amended Return Payment in After you file

I left something off of my original return and will be sending in my amended return which will require a payment. Do I send the payment check at the same time I mail the amended return or do I need to wait until it's processed and I receive a bill from the government?

Per the IRS: If you owe more tax, file your Form 1040X and pay the tax as soon as you can. This will stop added interest and penalties. Use IRS Direct Pay to pay your tax directly from your checking or savings account. https://www.irs.gov/payments/direct-pay Your Social Security Number would tie your payment to your amended return.
