my return has been rejected about a dozen times. i give up. i have printed it out and i'm on my way to the post office but i am absolutely not happy about it. the problem (IND-526 - If 'PINTypeCd' in the Return Header has the value "Self-Select On-Line" and the filing status of the return is married filing jointly and each of the following does not have a value: ['SpecialProcessingLiteralCd' and 'CombatZoneCd' and 'SpecialProcessingCodeTxt' and 'SpouseDeathDt'], then 'SpouseBirthDt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.) seems to only be a problem for turbo tax users. i understand that apparently the social security database has incorrect information listed for my wife, but i can't find any instances of this coded error message happening to anyone but people e-filing their returns with turbo tax. does anyone know if we have any recourse? i have spent more time re-filing and re-re-filing than it took me to complete my return -- i'd like to see intuit put some skin in the game. frankly, i'd like at least a partial refund -- i paid $120.00 for the second year in a row in the interest of making things easier (they were smooth as silk last year admittedly) but this is only making me hate taxes and everything about them even more.. if anybody has any ideas or experience with this, i'd love to hear back from you -- if not, at least thanks for letting me vent. aaaaaarrrrgggghhhhh .... regards. outofit (the opposite of intuit)...

This doesn't happen to just TT users ... and your issue is between the IRS, SS administration and Your Spouse ... please get this attended to before next tax season so you don't have this issue again.

Interestingly, my wife went to ss office and was told that the information ( her birth date) had been in error for the past 25 years, however it was never an issue with the irs until i filed with turbo tax this year.
they had no explanation. We corrected the information.

Someday your wife will want to collect her Social Security benefits. Is it not a good thing that a long-time error in the system has now been discovered and corrected?

certainly correcting the error is great, though the social security administration informed my wife that it had not affected her benefits. and really that is beside the point. my concern is with why the error only seems to happen to people e-filing with turbo tax. i have still heard of NO instances of this happening to anyone but this class of filers.

Since you are dead set on blaming TurboTax, no one will be able to change your mind. But consider this--statistically more people who use do-it-yourself tax software use TurboTax--so of course more TurboTax users may have various problems with the IRS than users of the competions' software.

If you submitted a payment with your rejected return then the payment was rejected at the same time that the return was. If you paid separately from the return and the ytook the money out of your bank account already then you need to tell the system that you already paid the amount that was taken out of your account.
