I filed an extension for my 2018 taxes and am now submitting it.

The rejection email I received from TurboTax gives the error code IND-031-04

My wife and I file our taxes as jointly. According to the rejection email, it states that I am either using the wrong AGI or the wrong "self-selected PIN" from my prior year (2017) tax return. I am using the same AGI from 2017 for both of us in the fields during the verification process.

In regards to the self-selected PIN, in the TT program during the submission process it directs me to "make up a PIN", but does not indicate that I need to use the same as I used in 2017, so of course, I no longer have the PIN I used in 2017.... HELP???

Where do I find my AGI?

Your 2017 tax return shows your 2017 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) If you filed a joint return then the AGI is the same for each of you.

Form 1040EZ line 4

Form 1040A line 21

Form 1040 line 37

If you are using the same TT account that you used last year, you should also be able to find this number in your Tax Timeline for 2017

If entering the amount from your 2017 tax return does not work, then try entering “0” instead. If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

You can get a free transcript of your past return from the IRS:

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Note: If you filed late or amended your return, your correct 2017 AGI may not be in the system.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1944348-how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online

Note: If you mail your federal return, you will also need to mail your state return. You will not be able to e-file your state return.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3415597-what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-getting-an-e-file-rejec

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1944348-how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online

it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail. Then you will know the IRS received it.

I am having the same problem tonight. Numbers are all correct. I wonder if it's a temporary error on the receiving end?

You are filing your 2018 return at almost the last minute. Did you do the same thing last year with your 2017 return? If so, your AGI did not make it into the system, so even if your numbers are correct, they won't work to let you e-file. Try using zero. If zero will not work, then you have to print, sign and mail the 2018 return.

(And you can expect this problem next year, too)

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS and/or your state received the return.

I logged onto the IRS website and verified that my AGI numbers were correct with those the IRS posted.

I started trying to file the return electronically and always got a rejection. Finally had to mail it.
