Will delayed refunds go out right away on the 15th?

Will delayed tax refunds start being deposited right away on Feb. 15th or could it still take a few weeks? I just filed mine today (Feb. 2nd). It was a simple return but I have the American opportunity credit.

The American Opportunity Credit is not one of the credits that would cause your refund to be held until the 15th. Those are only the Earned Income Credit or Additional Child Tax credit.

If you do have the credits that cause your refund to be delayed, the IRS has only stated that they will BEGIN to send those out on the 15th and that most people should receive then by the week of 2/27.

Thank you for clarifying! I knew the EIC and child tax credit were definitely being held and the only reason I thought that the AOC was on that list is because I went and spoke with someone at H&R block who told me that it was. Now I'm very curious why he would tell me that when its not true. I do know that the education credits are high fraud areas too but I can't figure out why someone who does taxes for a living would either lie to me or not know this. Anyway, thank you again! Yet another reason I love using turbotax

It is true that education credits can be an area of fraud, but they are of lesser concern because only $1,000 of the American Opportunity credit is refundable, meaning you can get that amount in cash over and above the tax you paid in during the year. With the EIC, on the other hand, people can get many thousands of dollars refunded to them in cash.
