2017 Tax Return - IRS Notice

Have received notice from IRS that certain numbers reported in tax filing do not match data reported to IRS. How do I confirm that transport of data from Turbo Tax to IRS was accurate? One number is a 1099-R. On the printed tax form the amount is the same as "reported by others" to IRS. "Shown on return" is a lower number, per IRS notice. The "reported by others" and amount shown on the printed form are both correct; "shown on return" is incorrect. "Shown on return" appears to be transmission from Turbo Tax. Why is there a difference?

Is it for an IRA or 401K? What line is it on the 1040? Line 15 is for IRA and line 16 is for 401K and pension. It's either on the wrong line or you answered a question wrong and got the wrong taxable amount on the "b" line, 15b or 16b.

And by reporting the wrong taxable amount will change other items in your return like the taxable amount of any Social Security you got on line 20.

the transport via efile is virtually 100.0000000000000000% accurate all the time. what wasn't accurate was the numbers you entered in TT.

“Virtually” isn’t actually. The number down on the printout of the 2017 return matches the 1099 - same, same. Both match what was reported to IRS by reporting source. What does not match is the number the IRS shows to have been reported in the efile.

Exactly which line on your 1040 matches what was reported to the IRS by the issuer but didn't Transmit right? Are you looking at a copy of your actual Turbo Tax return?

16b, but it’s the sum of a couple numbers. Just moved, & haven’t found the 📦 with the hardcopies. Still searching....

So you have more than 1 1099R? Maybe one belongs on line 15 instead of 16 so the IRS missed it.
