Live Tax Help to amend 2016 Return

Can I get live tax help to amend my 2017 return? I sold stocks and my return didn’t reflect accurate numbers-for which the IRS sent a notice that I owe taxes. I don’t understand the short term, long term investments, employee stocks, capital gains/losses and cost basis, and desperately need help.

Select a tax year for specific amending instructions. There is no LIVE help feature for amending a prior year return ... follow the interview screens carefully in the investment section then if you get stuck you can call the TT support line with a specific question but they will not walk you thru it all or do it for you.

Keep in mind: You have 3 years from the date you filed your return (or 2 years after you paid the tax due, whichever is later) to file an amended return, which means you don't have to get it done by the April 15 filing deadline.

If you did not purchase Audit Defense:

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support. At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support". Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter. Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.

If you need stock sale help you probably should take your return to a local accountant to amend.
