You can do so by reporting that you sold a personal item for $1 that you paid $1 for one year or less than one year ago (i.e., the proceeds will be $1 and your basis will be $1).

The effect will be a short-term transaction with $0 gain and $0 loss, but a Schedule D will be created.

I am using a locally installed Turbo Tax Premier (Windows). The IRS requests a Schedule D for a single 1099 DIV item: Box 2a, Total Capital Gain Distribution. Turbo Tax puts the full amount onto Form 1040 and checks the box indicating Schedule D is not required. Can I force the creation of a Schedule D?
