Where’s my refund says take action code 1541. It’s been that way since the 15th. Should I do anything or wait it out?

Code 1541 is an internal code that the IRS uses to identify returns that have been "Delayed". This doesn't mean there is something wrong with your return, it could simply be that the IRS has an overflow of returns at this time and is behind schedule on issuing refunds. There are different reasons accounting for the 1541 reference number.

1541 could mean your refund was put on hold if you have the child credit, until February 15 and they will release those with the reference code 1541, at that time.

To be certain on the status of your refund, I would recommend contacting the IRS directly and mention the reference code 1541. You can reach them at +1(800) 829-1040. Check Where's My Refund? as well tor tracking the refund.

Well when I spoke with them yesterday they did say I would have no later then the 11th of March smh I just read on its website that after 45 days from date of received they have to pay interest so let's all hope they release them soon I just wish the WMR would update a date dang it

I just wish I can get a definite reason as what needs to be verified. I filed January 29th and I received the reference code 1541 on February 16th. I spoke to them 3 times since then including today and no one still doesn’t know the reason for my refund being held, but she did tell me I should be getting a letter in the mail early next week. Depending on what they’re holding my refund for will determine if I should wait 45-60 days.

I have called twice and told its becuz of the Path act and I would update on 23rd. I did not update the 2nd time I called I was told the same and that I would update on the 27th. And again I didnt update.

I called twice and was told there are alot of people with this code, and due to the path act they r trying to cut down on fraud so the randomly selected tons and tons of returns to do an extended hold/review. I was informed instead of the 21 day wait or whatever, that we have to wait 45 days instead a d that by mid March we should have our tax refund if nothing is wrong with the return.

You guys are not under review that's just what they are being told to tell you. A ton of ppl with that code got their money or a date already. I filed 1/8 accepted 1/14 & got code 1541 around 2/8 & this morning 3/1 I updated to your return has been received & is processing & my amount is back. It was a code the system gave to buy time for the people they didn't get to yet. We should be getting dates soon.

Thank god im so glad it changed for some of us however if you are still having that error be sure to know that if it was someone fraudulent or an actual error it won’t be the 1541 code hope that helps

I called today after my irs app updated to the "we are processing your return" from the code 1541. This does not mean our return is approved. They still have to review it and approve it. HOPEFULLY it's a fast process. But 8 called twice today March 1st and both reps said up to 45 days IF nothing is wrong. If something is wrong and they need more information then it can be even longer. So nothing is done until you get an approval and/or the money is in your account.

No one said that meant we are approved but we aren't DELAYED anymore. Now it is being processed so we should get approved & receive a date soon. Those are REPS at the IRS they're telling you what they are being told to tell you.
