Even
though the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, it’s possible your tax
return may require additional review and take longer.

You
can start checking on the status of your return within 24 hours after the IRS
has received your e-filed.

You
can use the IRS2Go phone app or go to IRS.gov. Both are available 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week after the filing season is opened .Where’s My Refund? is
updated no more than once every 24 hours, usually over night. So you don’t need
to check the status more often.

By law, the IRS cannot issue
refunds for people claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional
Child Tax Credit (ACTC) before mid-February 2018.

·
The law requires the IRS to hold
the entire refund — even the portion not associated with EITC or ACTC.

The IRS expects the earliest
EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit
cards starting on Feb. 27, 2018, if direct deposit was used and there are no
other issues with the tax return.

·
This additional period is due to
several factors, including the Presidents Day holiday and banking and financial
systems needing time to process deposits.

This law change, which took
effect at the beginning of 2017, helps ensure that taxpayers receive the refund
they’re due by giving the IRS more time to detect and prevent fraud.

  Most taxpayers won’t be impacted
by the PATH Act

The IRS expects that the majority of tax refunds (more than 9 out of 10) will
be issued in 21 days or less from the time of acceptance.

If you have not received your
refund or have received a refund for a different amount than you expected:

·
