If my husband didn't make as much as last year do we select the earned income election? When tried it talked about hurricane and lowered our refund so doesn't make sense

If you selected the EIC election and the result was a lower refund then you have the option to back up and say no to the election to keep the higher refund ... this was an election only and not a requirement. The program really needs to be redesigned to make this option easier to understand ... but the programmers don't ask the tax pros for their input first so this is what you get.
