Amended returns can only be mailed. It can take them 16 weeks for the IRS to process them. And they only mail checks for refunds. Hello, how long did it take to get your amended after signing and sending the declaration back? Did you keep the copy or did you send it back with the original?

Currently amended returns are taking 10 months on average to be processed and your unsigned return did not start processing before it was returned for a signature (first thing they check on a paper return) so expect it to take a long long time.

Even during “normal” times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return. During the pandemic and due to the severe backlog at the IRS it is taking much longer—six to nine months or more for many amended returns. Do not expect quick results from amending. When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check. They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns. You can watch for information here:
