I know it doesn't affect our tax return, but we just noticed that for the last 4 years my husbands paycheck still says single. We have now changed it to married, but does anyone know if there is a way to get the money back we paid at the higher tax rate? Thank you!

The amount of taxes withheld according to your filing status are your
Federal income taxes withheld and your state income taxes withheld (if
applicable).

The amount of those taxes withheld is reported on your Form W-2 each year.

You then reported the W-2 and the amount of taxes withheld on your Income
Tax return.

Your withholding amounts were applied against your actual income taxes due,
and any excess was refunded to you.

So, you have already gotten the money
back through any refunds you received.
