topic Child filed but incorrectly said could not be dependent on other return; she now filed 1040X. Should I include a letter in my return explaining why she’s a dependent? in After you file

Child is a college student who filed her own return. In error, she claimed herself but this would not have impacted her refund. She has since filed a 1040X shoing that she can be listed as a dependent on another return. It takes time to process. For my return, I can’t e-file because of her status. Should I attache a letter and copies of her 1040X to show why I’m leaving her on my return as a dependent?

No. Just print and mail your normal return. Do not attach a letter or her 1040X. The IRS will process it normally. When her amended return is finally processed, that will prevent the IRS from later questioning why you claimed her.
