WHY DID MY REFUND GO DOWN WHEN I ADDED ANOTHER W-2?

When you added more income, your tax liability increased, so you saw your refund decrease. The program begins by giving you your personal exemption of $4050 plus your standard deduction—both of which lowered your taxable income. So you are not being taxed on as much of the income on that first W-2. Then you added taxable income--so the refund went down. Your refund (or tax due) is based on the total of your income, not “per W-2.” Wait until you have entered ALL of your income and deduction information. You can't really tell anything until it is all entered. That “refund monitor” does not mean anything until everything has been entered.

  https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2273878-why-did-my-refund-drop-when-i-entered-another-w-27

Note: What did you do to amend your return? Did you prepare a Form 1040X which you printed, signed and mailed? Amended returns cannot be e-filed.

You will still get the first refund or need to pay the original tax due. Then the amended return is only for the difference you get back or owe. In fact you should not even amend until the first return has fully processed and you get the first refund or your tax due payment has cleared. And make sure the original refund or tax paid shows up on the amended return. You can confirm this by printing your amendment and looking at the 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16. If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.

Amended returns can only be MAILED not efiled. How to amend 2017
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4252298-how-do-i-amend-a-2017-return-in-turbotax">https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4252298-how-do-i-amend-a-2017-return-in-turbotax</a>

Amended returns can only be mailed. It can take them 16 weeks for the IRS to process them. And they only mail checks for refunds. After 3 weeks you can track it here, <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.irs.gov/filing/individuals/amended-returns-form-1040-x-/wheres-my-amended-return-1">https://www.irs.gov/filing/individuals/amended-returns-form-1040-x-/wheres-my-amended-return-1</a>
