I have received my 2016 return and need to amend it as certain information was left out. I have read and can see where the option should be to amend for 2016 but it is not there for me. Do I have to wait longer for that option to become available?

No, the option to amend should be there right after filing (it might not show until your return is accepted by IRS, but if you already got your refund, then it should be there). Try this if you are not seeing the amend link -

Log into your account
Hit Taxes and then My Tax Timeline
Scroll down until you see "Some Other Things You can Do" under 2016
You should see the amend option here, if you don't click "Add a State"
This will let you back into your return (you don't have to actually add a state) - you may see the Amend link on your homepage now after clicking Add a State
If you still don't see a link, then go to Federal Taxes > Other Tax Situations > Scroll down to Other Tax Forms > Select Amend a Return
Follow the amend prompts
You will need to print and mail your amended return as they are not e-filed
