It simply means that your e-filed return is being processed and that the government hasn't approved or rejected it yet. Sometimes return status does not update for several days or even longer.

During this time, the government reviews your refund (processing). During the review process, they look for math errors on your return (extremely rare in TurboTax) and they also check if you owe back taxes, unpaid child support, or other debts.

If they need to make any corrections, they may offset (reduce) your refund. In some cases, the correction might even increase your refund.

Once that part's done, the government approves your refund, which means it's ready to be deposited or sent.

It can take up to 21 calendar days after acceptance for the IRS to issue your refund, although most refunds go more quickly than that, while a small handful may take a bit longer.

The IRS issues more than 9 out of 10 refunds in the normal time frame: less than 21 days. However, incomplete or inaccurate tax returns may require further review and could take longer than the normal processing time.

last 20 days, according to the IRS website, I got the topic 152. However, as of today, 2/15, IRS website has been changed and says, “In the process of the review” and removed code number-topic 152 same time. That indicates that they changed their mind? What is going on? It will be more than 21 days soon too. Please advice.

Tax Topic 152 simply means that your e-filed return is being processed and that the government hasn't approved or rejected it yet. Sometimes return status does not update for several days or even longer. The IRS issues more than 9 out of 10 refunds in the normal time frame: less than 21 days. However, it’s possible that some tax returns may require further review and could take longer.

The link she provides is an IRS explanation of Tax Topic 152. Tax Topic 152 provides general information about the IRS tax return process. So, this is just general information that IRS provides as they process your tax return. You don't have to review it if you choose not to do so. Also, when you file your tax return and IRS accepts it, then it is now in the hands of IRS. So at this point, IRS can only provide you with information on your tax return status. So, keep watching the IRS tool Where My Refund as updates are made frequently.

I got a tax topic 152 in the past and received my taxes within 21 days. The next year was audited in 2017 and they kept our taxes because our children were not legitimized yet by their father and now they are legitimized and I let him claim the kids and myself this year and hope that we do not get tax audited again but if we do I will have all the proof we need but curious if the tax topic 152 is for identity or not because I have read on here many different things and in the past I had tax topic 152 and received my taxes. I claimed the kids the past 3 years myself but this year I was just a student did not work so kids dad claimed me and kids. My turbo tax said that estimated date to get my refund is 3-23-21 since I filled taxes on 3-2-21 thats 21 days and topic 152 is all mine says so far.

@DHancock44 TurboTax gives an estimated refund date based on the IRS average of a 21 day timeframe for most filers. While we at TurboTax have no way of finding out specific information about the processing of an individual tax return once it's been transmitted to the government.

Tax Topic 152 shows that your return has been accepted, and your refund is being processed. Here is the IRS information page for Tax Topic 152, which shows reasons for this message: Topic No. 152 Refund Information

This is the general timeline of e-filed returns:

Transmission > Acceptance > Review/Processing > Approval > Refund.

During processing, the government reviews your refund. During the review process, they look for math errors on your return (extremely rare in TurboTax) and they also check if you owe back taxes, unpaid child support, or other debts.

Please see the links below for more information:
