topic When do I amend? in After you file

I accidentally filed my 2017 W2 on my 2018 return. I was placed on a 45 day review starting 3/4 and just realized what I did yesterday. So I called the IRS and the lady told me I would need to amend. Do I wait until my review is over to amend or do it now? And would the IRS fix the issue internally during the 45 day review process?

If the IRS agent told you to amend your return, you should go ahead and amend your return to remove your 2017 W-2 from your 2018 filing. Here is a link to the instructions

I did my 2017 already and it was done correctly, so that one is fine. I'm just afraid if I amend now before my review is over then it will cause even more of a delay.

Normally, we would expect an amendment to delay the IRS, but if the agent told you to amend, I would take their advice. However, it's *only* a month until the 45-day review process is over, no rush, unless you will owe the IRS some money back.
