Hello hnahay,

Thank you for participating in our Ask the Expert event today. As to your question, you first need to understand whether or not you have the right to sublet. HUD Section 8 housing is not allowed to be sublet, so you need to figure out from the entity that is subsidizing your apartment if you can sublet.

Assuming you can sublet, you are basically becoming the landlord where any cost associated with the lease, including the rent you pay, can be deducted against the rental income received.

I hope that helps.
