My friend is on disability and lives by himself but someone claimed him on their 2018 taxes because he lived in their house for half the yr. Will he still receive stimulus check

He may need to file something NOW for 2019 to make sure he is not still being claimed as a dependent. Does he get SSI or Social Security disability? It makes a difference.

Many people are confused by the terms Social Security and SSI---they are not the same thing.

Do youget Social Security benefits or do you get SSI?

For the stimulus check:

If you get Social Security then each year you receive a SSA1099 from Social Security in late January/early February showing your Social Security and the amount you paid for Medicare.

If you receive SSI--you do not receive any sort of document to use on a tax return and do not file a tax return that reports the SSI. Here is where to register for the stimulus check.

He has received SSI disability for last 10 yrs due to back surgeries & now CHF. Yes they send the document for taxes. And he is not required to file taxes.

The IRS says "U.S. residents will receive the Economic Impact Payment of $1,200 for individual or head of household filers, and $2,400 for married filing jointly if they are not a dependent of another taxpayer."

"Eligible retirees and recipients of Social Security, Railroad Retirement, disability or veterans' benefits as well as taxpayers who do not make enough money to normally have to file a tax return will receive a payment. This also includes those who have no income, as well as those whose income comes entirely from certain benefit programs, such as Supplemental Security Income benefits."

If you want to find out when your payment is coming, there will soon be an online tool to track it. On April 17, the IRS plans to launch an online tool called Get My Payment. It will let you to check the status of your payment and find out when it will be deposited into your bank account or mailed to you.
