That's what I thought. It was just weird for it to go from $3 to -$1400. I went away from my computer for a bit and when I came back to work on it, it was back to $3. Oy vey!

Hi all,

I'm doing my taxes right now (I know, so close) and I was receiving a refund of $3. BUT when I put that I received the Letter that I received the third stimulus check, my return jumped up to me owning $1400, the same amount as the stimulus check.

This doesn't sound correct as it is my understanding that this was not supposed to be repaid. I opened the worksheet and it also says I shouldn't repay it.

Can anyone explain this to me?

You are not repaying it, but the credit is first applied to your return. This means you may have owed 1,397, but the credit for the stimulus (1,400) resulted in a refund of $3.

Once you report that you already received the payment, that 1,400 credit is removed.
