Hello,

My return was rejected because I did not include form 1095-A from the Health Insurance Marketplace.

I only started working last year July, 2021, and before that was a dependent on my parents tax return.

Since I made over $7000 last year, I have to file my own tax return. There are 2 Forms 1095-A,

one for Jan, Feb, March and April 2021 and the other form 1095-A for rest of the year.

Problem is that both forms are in my father's name as recipient (My father passed away last year) and covered individual is in my name.

I was a dependent for more then half a year last year and the years before.

Can you let me know what should be done now? IRS does not accept my return without the 1095-A,

but how will my Mom be able to file her joint return? Since form 1095-A is in name of my Dad as recipient?

[email address removed]

Yes, you will need the copies of the 1095A and then you will need to allocate your share of the amounts listed for all 12 months. Your parents will need to do the same on their tax returns. Here are the steps.

Click on Deductions & Credits under Federal

Under the menu for Medical, click Start/Revisit next to Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)

Answer Yes indicating that you have the form to enter

complete the information on the next screen to match your form and click continue. Do not allocate on this screen.

On the following screen, choose I shared this policy with another taxpayer who's not on my taxes

On the screen that follows, provide the information for your parents and the allocation percentages.

Keep in mind, you need to agree with your parents on how to allocate the amounts that are listed on the 1095A. If your parents wish to claim all of the amounts listed, then you will put all zeros in columns A, B, and C on the 1095A but this may cause an error message when you file
