    <description>&lt;P&gt;Yes, you do have to declare this as income.&amp;nbsp; If the loan was not being paid back, then the loan amount would be treated as a distribution and a 1099-R would be issued.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;In 2019 my husband took out a $20,000.00 loan against his 401K.&amp;nbsp; We have been paying it off through automatic withdrawal against his paycheck.&amp;nbsp; Well in 2020 he was hurt on the job and the workman's comp agreed to halt the payments until he started back to work.&amp;nbsp; He has been back to work but they have not started the automatic payments yet.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;So we received&amp;nbsp; a 1099-R for $15,737.14.&amp;nbsp; Do I have to declare that as retirement?&lt;/P&gt;</description>
