I paid for a download version 2021 for Mac, around $90.

when I filed my Utah return Intuit charged $20!!!

I also opted for the Audit protection.

Is the amount different for different states?

Why was mine so much less than what is being quoted here?

The $19.99 fee was to efile your state return. With the software, you are entitled to one free state but need to pay additional to efile it. The state fee that was quoted above is for the online version of Turbo Tax only.

Does this mean that I pay $89 for Federal e-filing and prepare CA state Tax and file offline for free?

You can use the CA software to file for free if that is an option. There is an option in TurboTax to file the Federal Only.
