I am doing my mother's taxes. She is SSA tax exempt as an older Federal Government employee and did not pay into Social Security. I can see that Turbo tax lists Tier one as persons born between 1946 and 1952 getting an extra deduction and then there is also another Tier for after 1952. I do not see how to handle hers as her birth year is 1937. I am going to try to call the IRS tomorrow but thought I would throw it out there in case anyone has an answer for me. Thank you

Can you clarify your question?

Are you trying to enter an RRB-1099 or a CSA 1099-R?

This SSA Exempt refers to schedule 1 on a Michigan 1040 return. My mother was born in 1937 so doesn't fit in the tier 2 or 3 but seems like she should get a deduction of some kind.

If your mother was born in 1937 she is actually in Tier One and Tier One individuals do not pay any taxes on retirement or SSA income. Tier Two is for individuals born from 1946 to 1952 and Tier 3 is for individuals born after 1952. You should see a subtract on your mother's MI-1040 for the full amount of her SSA and any other pension she might receive.

The subtractions or on Schedule 1 but are shown on Line 13 of the MI-1040.
