It needs to double check some items. It can't go by the file you transferred. You might have amended or changed something or filed another file.

A State Tax Refund is taxable if you itemized deductions on that prior year's federal return and took a deduction for state income taxes instead of the sale tax. You got a deduction benefit for it so now you have to include it as income. If you took the standard deduction it is not taxable and you don't need to report it.

You need to check your 2020 1040 line 12 to see which deduction you took. How much is on line 12?

Is there a way to look at data that has been imported into TurboTax (2021)? After importing my 2020 return, some information is available, basic personal data, dependents data, etc. The topics list shows 2020 and 2021 data. But sometimes it asks about something last year's return that should have been imported. For example, it asked how much my state refund was and if I took the standard deduction or itemized my state taxes. last years. Is there a way to view imported data, previous return, W2s, 1099s, etc.? Thanks!

Okay, fair enough. I may have made a mistake on my return, or a form may have been amended after filing. But to answer the itemized question, I'd open TT2020, open the same return file that was imported and look at line 12. Are some data not included with the import? Why can't I view my imported 2020 return in TT2021? In this particular case, it is the same data source. Thanks again.
