Can my daughter who was a full time student with part time income get the 3rd stimulus check if I don’t claim her as a dependent. She does qualify as my dependent but it would benefit her more if she could get the stimulus.

Thanks

No, she will not be eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit on her tax return. Since she can be claimed as a dependent, even if Not being claimed, she must indicate on her tax return that she can be claimed as a dependent.

If your daughter is under 24, a full-time student and does not provide for more than half of her OWN support, then she is your dependent.

You can decide NOT to claim her. And you can do so and you will lose the Other dependent credit of $500. And you will not be able to claim her education credits.

If your daughter files a tax return, she will be asked if she provided more than half of her OWN support. If she answers no, then she has to say that she can be claimed as a dependent by someone else (even if you do not actually claim her). She would then NOT be eligible for the third stimulus (and the refundable part of the American Opportunity credit)
