It does not matter that your parents received the 3rd stimulus payment for you when you were their dependent is based on their 2020 tax return.

The Recovery Rebate Credit for you in the amount of $1,400 is based on your 2021 tax return where you are not a dependent.

It is perfectly legal for your parents to receive the stimulus payment for you in one year and you to receive the payment in another year, that is a loophole in the tax code.

My parents claimed me as a dependent on their 2020 taxes so they received the stimulus payment for me. For 2021 they can no longer claim me, but the question is asking if I got a 3rd stimulus amount in 2021. No I didn't because my parents did. If I put yes then it wants to know how much. Do I just answer yes and the amount my parents received for me?

You should answer No because you did not receive the 3rd stimulus payment, your parents did.

If I say no then the problem is then it wants to send me this $1400.00 in my refund even though my parents already got it.

Even though you did not receive the 3rd stimulus check personally, the IRS can see that $1,400 was issued under your SSN. You should answer yes, otherwise, the IRS will adjust the amount of refund claimed on your return. We are entitled to receive only $1,400 once. Answer Yes to confirm that $1,400 is correct.

I think @FangxiaL is wrong.

If you were a dependent on a 2020 return but filing independent for 2021 you can get it now and they don't have to pay it back. So say NO you did not get one because you didn't one, your parents got it.

The 3rd Stimulus payment is really based on 2021. The IRS just sent the checks out using 2020 to get them out fast.

See IRS Topic B first question
https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/questions-and-answers-about-the-third-economic-impact-payment-topic-b-eligibility-and-calculation-of-the-third-payment
