Why does the 1040 ask about my 2019 EIC, but doesn't appear to use it even though my 2019 number is larger than my 2021 number?

Larger isn't always better. With the Earned Income Credit, you hit a point where your income is at the peak and then starts coming down the other side of the bell curve. So, if you made too much in 2019, your EIC may be less than it would be with the amount you earned in 2021. If this is the case, TurboTax will automatically use the income that provides you the best results.
