I am working on entering my W-2s and Turbo tax is doubling my social security taxes withheld and asking me to file for excess refunds from one of my two employers.

I had two employers during 2021, each separately withholding the social security taxes. That results in overall I ending up paying excess social security taxes. I thought that just gets adjusted in my overall taxes by reducing my general federal taxes by that excess SS taxes. But instead TurboTax is adding the social security taxes from both the employers and attributing those to the first employer and asking me to request excess refund from the first employer. Since my first employer never deducted any excess taxes, I can not request for that. There seems to be a bug in the TurboTax software and someone needs to fix that.

First, did the two employers have the same EIN (this is on your W-2s)? If they did not, then the excess should be reported on line 11 of Schedule 3 (1040).

If they did have the same EIN, come back and tell us.

Yes, it was incorrectly entering the same EIN for the two W-2s. Once that was corrected, this issue was fixed.

Thanks
