If you indicated on your 2021 tax return that you did NOT receive the 3rd stimulus payment, then the Recovery Rebate Credit was entered on your tax return. The IRS has records showing you were sent the 3rd stimulus payment so they removed the Recovery Rebate Credit, thereby changing your tax return from having a tax refund to having taxes owed.

I suspect this is happening a lot this year, as the IRS letters confirming those 3rd payments were sent out after many folks had already filed their 2021 returns.

Agree, I only received mine two days ago. If they do not track their bank deposits, amazing how many do not, then they will file their tax returns incorrectly.

I never got a third recovery rebate. I track my bank deposits.

If you were eligible to receive the 3rd stimulus payment, not a dependent or 2020 AGI under the maximum, then go to this IRS website for information on putting a trace on the payment - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/questions-and-answers-about-the-third-economic-impact-payment-topic-j-payment-issued-but-lost-stolen-destroyed-or-not-received

I have a profile on irs.gov website and there is no record of a 3rd stimulus payment. I cannot put a trace on something that did not happen. Also when I call the. Irs all thru out the day it says due high volumes of call try back and hangs up on me. I try when they first open and thru the day

until right before they close. I can’t get in touch with anyone! It is ridiculous.

Clicking on the tab Tax Records, under Economic Impact Payment Information selecting tax year 2021

There is not any entry for Economic Impact Payment 3?

Then your only option is to continue trying to contact the IRS.

Some users have had luck, although long waits, using this procedure -

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
