Hi all,

I received an Advanced Child Tax Credit form in the mail with box 1 of $1100. However, looking at my received credits in my bank, the child tax credits equal $2200. How or what do I report on TurboTax for 2021?

Also, only I received a form and only I received payments in my bank account. My wife did not receive a form and did not receive any payments. TurboTax says my wife “probably” received one. Is it safe to assume truthfully she did not actually receive one and can ignore her portion of it?

Thank you!

If you file jointly for tax year 2020, the IRS will pay the advance child tax credit payments to one bank account but will issue two 6419 letters, one to each spouse reporting half of the total advance to each spouse.

In your case, you receive your 6419 letter but your wife did not. It would be safe to assume that the IRS sent a similar letter to your wife and that letter got lost. Your wife can use the Child Tax credit Update portal to check the Advance CTC reported on her 6419 letter.

Please read this IRS FAQ, especially question C4 and C6 for more information.

That would make sense that $1100 + $1100 would equal our total of $2200. Making an account on the portal has been a pain. We will continue to try to check the portal. Thank you
