Was the federal or just the state rejected? If both were rejected then double check the Date of Birth and spelling of his name as well. If everything is correct, you will need to contact the Social Security Administration to verify what is going on. You can use the office locator to find a local office.

If just the state was rejected, you may need to print and mail your return as it is possible that someone already used his SSN on a state return.

I doubt that would have rejected just the state return ... the IRS only looks at the first 4 letters of the last name, the SS# & year of birth to accept a return ... everything else can be dead wrong and they would not care. So if the return was accepted by the feds then what exactly is the state rejecting ? Do you have a reject code or letter from them ?
