This is a problem I have never had before. I have 4 1099's to download from Schwab. Because they belong to different people on the tax return, but are part of the same account I have with Schwab, I downloaded one belonging to one family member. Later on in a different session, I downloaded the other 3 belonging to other family members.

When I downloaded the 3 1099's, the first 1099 I downloaded was deleted from Turbo Tax. I had to download all 4 at once. I have NEVER had this problem before this year, and I NEVER had this problem with Fidelity.

Anyone else have this problem? What's going on with Turbo Tax and Schwab this year? Not pleased at all. Not to mention the "unable to logon" problem still exists with Schwab/Turbo Tax (see different forum)

My experience in this area is with Fidelity and Schwab. If you have different 1099's with different SSN's that belong on one return, when you import, both Schwab and Fidelity will list all the accounts. You then check off what you want downloaded. In the past, I'd check which 1099's I wanted to download - and check that. Then it would download. When I go back and import say, something I forgot or for a different family member, I'd download that account. I've never had Turbo Tax delete what was previously downloaded automatically. Ive' been doing this for at least 5 years and have never seen this problem before.

I see your point but that's not my situation. For example, if you have 4 accounts with Schwab - 1 is a joint account (husband and wife), 1 is husband account, 1 is Wife account, 1 is child account - if I download them all at once, they download. If I download Husband first, then download Joint, wife and kid later, Turbo Tax should not be deleting my first download (Husband) correct?

I've been doing this with Fidelity and Schwab since 2011. Never had a second download erase the first. To me that's a bug. It certainly didn't happen last year.

You raise some good points. I reposted below, my first was confusing. But... say I have 8 accounts with Schwab. 4 belong one 1 1040, 4 belong on other 1040's. But all are managed under one Schwab account. When you sign in at Schwab in the import screen, all 8 1099's will show up - presumably because they are under one Schwab account. You do have to check the correct boxes to make sure you aren't downloading a 1099 that doesn't belong to the return you're working on.

My complaint - which I feel is a bug, if I download say 3 1099's and then download one I forgot - Turbo tax should be adding the 4th 1099, not deleting the other 1099's I had already downloaded.

To avoid duplicates, or repair errors, TurboTax has (or had) a "remove imported data " command.

It sounds like TurboTax is automatically executing this command when you import more than once from, presumably, a particular broker.

[<STRIKE>Obviously, that's a bug.]</STRIKE>

This is just my guess. I can't access all 1099-Bs from the several accounts I have at my broker via one login when importing.

This is a little off the subject but Schwab will combine all the broker accounts under one login but you have to request that through your broker. Then you can see everything at a glance without having to sign in under multiple User ID's.

However, if it's set up that way, when importing from Schwab to Turbo Tax, it will show all those accounts for download. Then you have to check which ones you want downloaded.

You might be right about Turbo Tax executing that command.

The other thing I noticed is that I had 2 1099-INT that downloaded with only $1 of interest. Turbo Tax downloaded a blank 1099-INT. I didn't catch it until I ran the error check showing I needed an amount for the blank 1099 INT. That's when I caught this problem. I'm assuming that happened in that there's no 1099 Filing requirement for interest under $10. But Schwab sent us a 1099-INT anyway and I downloaded it.

The entire process has been screwy and frustrating - then to have the "unable to logon- try again later" that people are experiencing (discussed on another post), makes me wonder, what the heck is going on with Schwab and or Turbo Tax. Something that should take me maybe 15 minutes to download and double check the entries has taken me way too long.

If it's doing that, I don't think you can stop it. You just import the most complex one, then enter the simplest one manually.

_____________________

TTX may figure a way to stop the program from doing that eventually, but might take months (or never).

I have the same problem, spent 4 hours trying to figure out what was happening. I have multiple Schwab accounts. The clue something weird was happening when I downloaded my 1099-Div I was then getting a $3K federal credit, looking I noticed all my 1099-B were gone. I don't think Schwab has the power to delete (that could be a security flaw), it has to be coming from TurboTax.

This is the second time-consuming problem I have had with TurboTax. The first was it couldn't update and gave a 1603 error, I had to uninstall and reinstall TurboTax to solve that problem. For Intuit being a $137B company, I'm not too impressed. To top it off, they will send me emails congratulating me on my post. Just got one. "Your earned the 7-Day Streak badge". Seems to be a game to them.
