I use SurePayroll which files and pays the taxes on my behalf. I have a Schedule H, 1040-ES, 941s, and W3. They informed me that I should be filing Schedule H in my personal return.

In Turbo Tax, I have already went to "Other Tax Situations" > "Nanny and Household Employee Tax" and filled out all the appropriate boxes using the info from the Schedule H.

Then, to balance out the Schedule H from what's already been paid, I went to "Deductions & Credits" > "Estimates" > "Federal estimated taxes for 2021 (Form 1040ES)" and input the value from the 1040-ES (which matches Line 26 of the Schedule H).

My question is: Do I also need to enter any additional values in the next option down "State estimated taxes for 2021" or were they considered included based on what I've already done? For instance, the 941 shows 3 boxes for the state Income Tax, Disability, & Unemployment. Or, the Schedule H has box 14 for unemployment. Also, the new state FMLA tax that I know the employee 'pays' and then our employer workers compensation.

If I do need to input something in the State estimated taxes for 2021, does anyone know specifically what should be entered?

Thank you!

No, you do not have to enter the New Jersey state taxes you paid in TurboTax. For the federal return. the IRS collects the FICA and Unemployment taxes for Household Employees with your personal tax return, which is why you include the Schedule H and enter the payments you made during the year. New Jersey keeps all the state withholdings and Unemployment taxes separate from your personal state return.

All the states have their own laws and requirements so I am glad you indicated Connecticut. here is the information for Connecticut taxes Withholding Information for Household Employers and the Unemployment is separate as well. The best thing about the Surepayroll service is they specialize in making sure all the state requirements are met.

Hi - piggybacking off this question ... I have the same question for Virginia. I searched the VA Dept of Taxation site for the answer and was not able to find anything definitive. Do I enter the taxes withheld for my employee (and reported on her W2) and the unemployment insurance paid under Estimated Taxes for State, or do I leave it blank? Thank you!

If you paid state taxes for your nanny and need to have them paid with your Virginia return then you'll need to enter them there as well as on your Virginia return.
