@laurestine67 - Yes you can if you want to delete the form. It is still early in the filing season and you have until April 15 to file and still be on time. You can try to delete the Schedule R form and see if that works to allow you to file.

Follow the steps below to delete the form:

The Internal Revenue Service extends a special credit to older taxpayers called the Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. This tax break allows individuals and couples to reduce the amount of their income tax by their allowable credit. While a taxpayer may qualify for a larger credit under this provision, the IRS limits the allowable credit to the amount of income tax due. If your credit exceeds your income tax, you will not be able to receive the excess credit as a refund.

Use this link for additional information about Credit for The Elderly: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/retirement/guide-to-schedule-r-tax-credit-for-elderly-or-disabled/L9BacHF6chttps://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/retirement/guide-to-schedule-r-tax-credit-for-elderly-or-disabled/L9BacHF6c

Thank you for your reply. However, deleting the credit once my tax forms were completed does not work. For whatever reason, after I delete the credit, it reappears. So.....apparently the tax form will not allow deletions once the form is completed.

I have been advised that the only thing for me to do if I want to file my taxes right away would be to delete the entire tax form and start from the beginning as if I were filing for the first time for 2021. I choose to wait until March 17th and hopefully the necessary form will then be available to the IRS.

Thank you for your help.

Anna Hollis

Re my question above, no one seems to know what the hold up is but we have a new expected date of March 11th instead of the 17th.

Deleting the credit for Elderly / Disabled is not permitted once your tax forms have been completed. Found this out the hard way by attempting several times and the credit won't be deleted.

And, again, once accepted, you are not permitted to delete your tax return even if it has not been accepted by the IRS. I attempted to perform this option that was suggested by one of your reps but was unable to do so. Apparently, this action is not allowed either. Had I known when I initially did my return, I would have chosen to not claim that particular credit. However, since I was not made aware of the delay, I completed my tax return and THEN was told of the delay. Apparently, I must accept the inevitable and wait, wait, wait for my return to be processed.
