I purchased Turbotax Home and Office from the Intuit website and downloaded to my desktop. When I opened the app and it had my return listed so I opened it and proceeded to download last year's taxes. The two boxes at the top that show the Fed and State tax due/refund had amounts in them BEFORE I had entered any data for the current year. I have no idea where those numbers are coming from or what to do about the.

You should proceed with entering your 2021 tax information.

The Child Tax Credit is a refundable credit for 2021 so you do not need income to qualify for it and if you claimed a qualifying child last year, TurboTax assumes you will claim the child again and is populating the full credit. If you received any Advance Child Tax Credit payments you will enter that information and the credit will adjust then.

Also, the Recovery Rebate Credit is a refundable credit for 2021 and this represents the 3rd stimulus payment that was sent out in the spring of 2021. If you already received the 3rd stimulus payment, you will enter it as you go through the step-by-step, and TurboTax will adjust the credit amount to the correct calculation.

That makes sense. The Child Tax credit isn't applicable in my case but the Recovery Rebate would be.
