If you’re referring to your federal income tax return, you’ll sign and date on page 2 of Form 1040 or page 3 of Form 1040-SR, whichever you’re filing.

If you’re referring to a state return, most require signature and dating on the last page of the return. If you can’t find it, please reply back, identifying your state.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

In the FILE tab ... if you choose to mail in the return ... the program will produce a filing instruction page that includes where to mail both the fed and state returns as they go to different addresses.

LOOK for the signature section on the bottom of page 1 for the form 1

Sign your name at the bottom of page 1 of Form 1 if you are filing a resident return as Tax Champ @Critter-3 says or at the bottom of page 1 of Form 1-NR/PY if you are filing as a nonresident or part-year resident.

Your spouse must also sign if this is a joint return. Write the date you signed the return.

We suggest sending your return by certified mail with proof of delivery.

Or do you have some other question about an IL tax return?

Hi thank you for getting back. Yes, I’m wondering which page to sign. On page 1 and the very last page they both say sign here so it’s unclear whether I sign one or both.

Interesting. I do have those 2 pages, but I also have 5 more pages after and the 1st of the following 5 has a header reading ‘Nonresident and part resident computation of Illinois Tax’. On the last page there is a ‘sign here’. So I sign both I assume?
