I am trying to look for the Employer State ID number that is supposedly located in BOX 15. On my w2, Box 15 is the State with no Employer State ID number. Is it okay to leave it blank or I have to contact HR for the Employer State ID number?

It depends. Is your W-2 from a state with no income tax? If so, you can remove the state code and everything else in Boxes 15-20 unless you had local income tax withheld.

Sometimes, employers will add a state code such as FL or TX in the state section when the state has no income tax.

If your W-2 is from a state with an income tax, then contact HR for the state ID number.
